Lyrics

In the palm of my hand
Staring back up at me
Or the flickering light
From my TV screen
She never really smiles
But always shows her teeth
She’ll come into my house
Explain the world to me
As if she can’t believe it

I said, oh well oh well
I think I’m living in hell
Have all the answers
They just don’t pay too well
So nobody’s coming
To break out the spell
Said oh well oh well
I think we’re living in hell

He wants you to know
That you’re not the one
There’s always another other
To blame all the problems on
Like a drunken vampire
He says he misses the sun
Always wants another victim
But claims to hate the taste of blood
Even though it’s all over his hands

I said, oh well oh well
I think we’re living in hell
Have all the answers
They just don’t pay too well
You’ll follow the devil
If he dresses well
Said oh well oh well
I think we’re living in hell

The castle is just a doll house
The king wears a plastic crown
A paper moon illuminates the edge of town
How much longer should I even stick around

When I see the trees I know they faked it
When I feel the breeze I can see how they faked it
When I stop and breathe I can see that they faked it
When I see you I see me, and I think we can take it

I said, oh well oh well
I know we’re living in hell
Have all the answers
I’m gonna follow them well
Maybe one day I’ll ask you
Where you were
When the empire fell
Until then, oh well
I know I’m living in hell

Press Release

Boston singer-songwriter Zion Rodman released a new alt-rock single “Living in Hell” on March 24, the lead single from an upcoming album due in May. The album release show will be at The Burren Backroom on Saturday, May 16th.

Inspired by watching the news, “Living in Hell” explores the absurdity of alternative realities broadcast by certain networks through melodic indie/alternative rock and folk-influenced songwriting. Fans of Paramore, Death Cab for Cutie, and Third Eye Blind would enjoy this song.

This is the first single released since his EP in 2024, met with a sold-out release show at The Burren Backroom and a positive review in The Boston Globe: “Rodman’s collection [...] glows with optimism and gratitude, lending light to otherwise somber situations.”

Zion is an active member of the Boston music community, hosting open mics at Toad and Medford Brewing Company, performing throughout the city, and working as a sound engineer at local venues. He has appeared as a featured artist with We Black Folk, performed at Uncommon Stage in Boston Common, and played over 30 Sofar Sounds shows. He will support his upcoming album The Acquisition of All Things with another release show at The Burren Backroom on May 16th and a summer East Coast tour.

The single and upcoming album were recorded, mixed, and mastered at Rusty’s Recording Studio (Salem, MA) featuring Zion Rodman on guitar/vocals, David Greiff on drums, Christian Colegrove on bass, and Aaron Weitekamp on keyboard/synth. All music and lyrics written by Zion Rodman.
